Tradie qualifications from the UK — anyone done the VETASSESS skills assessment?

Anonymous Resilient Galah · 14 May 2026

Qualified sparky (electrician) with 12 years experience in the UK. Looking at the migration path via skills assessment for the 482/189. The VETASSESS docs are dense and the website is from 2003. Has anyone been through it for a trade? How long did it take, how much, and any "wish I'd known" tips?

Did it in 2024. About $1,100 VETASSESS + $480 doc certification. Took 14 weeks. Be ruthless about matching your job duties WORD FOR WORD to the ANZSCO description.

For electrical you also need a state licence after you arrive (each state has its own). Get UEE30811 Cert III equivalence in your VETASSESS outcome — that's the magic spell.

Worth paying for a one-hour consult with someone who's done it before submitting. I didn't and the RFI cost me 4 months.
